Dolphins

A dolphin is a marine structure that’s not connected to the shore and is constructed to guide boats approaching ports, docks or jetties.

C.E.C., Inc. excels in the design and construction of a cost-effective and durable dolphin that can be used for docking or as a navigational aid. C.E.C., Inc. (Complete Engineering & Construction) provides and performs a variety of marine construction services including new construction, rehabilitations, design build projects and engineering support.

C.E.C., Inc. has a long history designing marine support structures all over the state of Louisiana. We’ve been commissioned by private and public sector industries to help with marine based structures such as:

  • MDOT
  • LADOTD
  • The US Army Corps of Engineers
  • U.S. Fish and Wildlife Service Department
  • New Orleans- Crescent City Connection Division
  • BNSF Rail Road
  • CSX Rail Road
  • Parish & City Governments
  • Greater Baton Rouge Port Commission
  • Praxair
  • Levee District Boards

Our solutions are cost-efficient and timely because we do not have to wait for outside consultation when issues arise, because we have the benefit of engineering and technical staff in-house.

What does a dolphin do?

Often, dolphins are used with a structural seawall or dock to ensure that barges and vessels are secure while docked.

There are several dolphin types and sizes that C.E.C. Inc. can design and build for a cost-effective solution that fits your specific needs.

What’s the difference between Mooring dolphin and a Breasting dolphin?

A dolphin is a marine structure for mooring and berthing marine vessels. Dolphins are divided into two types: Breasting dolphins and Mooring dolphins.

Breasting dolphins serve the following purposes:

  1. Assist vessels by taking up berthing loads
  2. Keep the marine vessel from pressing against the pier, dock or wharf
  3. Act as mooring points to restrict the berthing vessel’s longitudinal movement.
  4. Mooring dolphins are used for mooring only. Their primary function is to secure the vessels by rope and to transverse movement of berthing vessels.

C.E.C. Inc. has a reputation for high-quality marine structure construction as well as rehabilitation at a fair and competitive price.

Our staff is highly trained and able to perform complex and technical projects while ensuring that client goals are met on schedule and within budget.
